The CNN-YouTube presidential debates were a series of televised debates in which United States presidential hopefuls field questions submitted through the social networking site YouTube.
The Democratic Party installment took place in Charleston, South Carolina and aired on July 23, 2007.
The Republican Party installment took place in St. Petersburg, Florida and aired on November 28, 2007.
In a much-hyped leap into cyberworld, Democratic candidates participated in the first CNN/YouTube debate July 23, 2007, where they responded to video queries posted online. User-generated content sites emerged as a force during the 2008 campaign, leading wags to dub it the “YouTube election.”
