Naked Bike Ride, Fremont Solstice Parade 2010
The Fremont Fair returns to celebrate community with a toast to summer!
Held annually in mid-June to coincide with the Summer Solstice, the event draws more than 100,000 people to shop, eat, drink, mingle, groove, and enjoy all manners of creative expression. Artistic highlights include the free-spirited Solstice Parade produced by the Fremont Arts Council.
A new bike trail in Beirut
Beirut inaugurated its first bike trail a few weeks ago.
Although it is a small loop inside the city, and that it is only opened for a few hours on Sundays, it is nevertheless a small step forward towards a green and sustainable transport mentality in the ‘my car is bigger than yours’ society, and a victory for the bikers in Lebanon.
According to The Daily Star, this bike lane covers Tripoli Street of the Beirut Souks and Patriarch Howayek Street.

- Sleeping Lady: a mountain resort in the Cascades. Their business card has flower seeds in it and can be planted sleepinglady.com

- Haymarket Books: a seemingly socialist/communist publishing house haymarketbooks.org
- Fungi Perfecti: a company selling edible mushrooms. I’m definitely getting one of their products! fungi.com

Teams from Lebanon, Egypt and Yemen named 2010 winners by MIT Business Plan Competition, with $75,000 in hand to launch new venture
The Little Engineer from Lebanon is this year’s big winner and BioBusiness from Egypt is the first runner-up, while Arabic Coach from Yemen and EG-Bioinformatics from Egypt are named as second runner-ups at annual celebration of Arab entrepreneurship in partnership with Abdul Latif Jameel (ALJ) Company

BioBusiness from Egypt was named first runner-up, with a $15,000 prize to help realize their business aspirations, presented at a glittering gala event in Cairo, Egypt. Arabic Coach from Yemen and EG-Bioinformatics from Egypt received $5000 each in start-up funding, with all teams receiving mentorship from international business consultants and some of the Middle East’s most prominent decision-makers throughout the competition process.
